Be Careful What You Wish For

Finding my self-motivation has come to a bit of a halt for me. Excuse me as I digress…
For forever now I’ve been obsessed with puppies, and like anyone else who loves puppies, we always wants one to just plop into our arms. Well…about a week ago a little diva named Khali entered into my life.

She is the most adorable pup and all, but let me tell all you college students who have also wished for a precious pooch a thing or two. There is a HUGE difference between playing with a puppy and having to take care of one. You literally become a parent. Certainly, raising a dog isn’t impossible, but you have to be willing to sacrifice a significant amount of your time to care for a puppy the right way. For me if you read my first blog post, “Practice Whatcha Preach”, you’d understand that I don’t take much time to focus on myself, which I truly think is essential for people to do. Whether it’s how you feel, look, act, anything…I really don’t care, its time to be a little selfish here and there. So, to end my rant, it’s time to realize what’s important. And for me it’s my health and wellbeing.
If you think finding motivation is hard, you’re not alone. I’m a former division 1 athlete and I still struggle self-motivating myself. I’ve always had someone telling me what I should do. From my dad, to personal trainers, physical therapists, and strength coaches…I still struggle trying to find a challenging workout to try. After talking a bit with a few of my friends about what they do, I’ve found that there are a number of different apps available on smart phones, or tablets (IOS, Android, Ipad). There is one that I have found extremely beneficial to help my struggles, if you may. It’s called Bikini Body Guide by Kayla Itsines, and it is great for someone looking to feel good about a workout. Seems simple, but it really does kick ass.

The app is super easy to use and plans out a 12 week workout for you to try. She even has an app that helps you plan out meals for those 12 weeks (which I don’t have but am considering). Granted I’m only on the 3rd day of the first week, I really do like this workout plan. Like I said its super easy to understand, and best of all I don’t have to leave my apartment! Living in Madison, Wisconsin it’s tough wanting to leave the crib when it’s in the single digits outside, and often times below zero. I never thought I’d be doing workout in my living room, but hey, you gotta find your own motivation somehow with what’s available, and what you’re willing to do.

How do dogs and motivation go hand in hand? They don’t, but for the sake of this conversation I’m going to try and use it as an example. We all go through different types of adversity, and at the end of the day we have two choices. Get what you want done no matter what stands in your way, or to just let excuses define you. Moral of the story: You can always make time for yourself, but be very carful what you wish for.
