Discipline is the Bridge Between Your Expectations and Your Goals

Having expectations and goals for yourself is one thing, but accomplishing them is a completely different story. It’s easy to have high standards for yourself, and to think you can do it all. I for one am that person. I have never lacked discipline when it came to working out or pushing myself in practice. I craved the intensity and competitiveness of college sports. After leaving a program that planned everything out for me, it’s become a challenge trying to construct and formulate a workout/lifestyle plan. Discipline will keep you on track, but it's important to have a plan.

"If you set goals and go after them with all the determination you can muster, your gifts will take you places that will amaze you."

-Les Brown

Since I've never had to understand why I was doing a specific workout, and what it benefitted, I never thought to learn much besides the different techniques and types of workouts you cando. I’m honestly not even really sure how people make up their own workouts, but it is something I have to begin to practice and research for myself...and I would suggest the same for others in similar situations.

I’ve found that through my endeavors, if you don’t know exactly what it is you’re doing or even how long to wait between sets for example, you can really hurt yourself...like I did last week. Doing some research stumbled upon a site called Myfitnesspal.com and bunch of their helpful blogs. One I liked for this disucssion is by Shannon Clark called 4 Common Workout Mistakes and How to Fix Them. The blog mentions a few tips that I will definitely include in my future workouts.

Besides changing and fixing things in a workout, what I find most important is setting a big picture goal for yourself making a plan to achieve it, and then maintaining it once you’ve reached it (which is often times the hardest part).

As for myself, I have a big picture goal in mind. My first step is to acknowledge the fact that I can't do it all. I have to start from the bottom, take what I've learned and apply those things that will get me back up to where I was. Most importantly, I have to remind myself to never give up, and I hope you do the same!
